Halloween + Social Media Marketing

24 Oct

Halloween Marketing TipsIn my last post, I talked about the importance of integrating holidays into your newsletters.

It’s just as important to leverage the holidays in your social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, and more.

Luckily, incorporating the holidays into your Facebook and Twitter posts is pretty easy. Because social media is all about connecting people and not explicitly about making sales, all it takes are a couple of “Happy Halloween!” posts to let your audience know you’re excited about the holidays, too.

Unlike newsletters, however, social media presents a unique opportunity to engage (or re-engage) your audience with your content. Try making a couple of fun Facebook polls over the next couple of weeks, such as:

  • What will you be dressing up as for Halloween?
  • What’s your favorite Halloween/horror movie?
  • How will you be celebrating the holiday?

You could also try having a Halloween photo contest where people upload their costume pics to your Facebook fan page and then vote on the winner. Or you could tweet about your business’ Halloween promotions. Or you could do a Halloween candy giveaway.

People love getting in the holiday spirit and they really appreciate when the businesses they like get into the holiday spirit, as well. Just a few little “Halloweeny” tweaks to your existing social media campaign will go a long way in generating goodwill and long-term business because it helps to show people that you’re people too.

With social media, you are only limited by your imagination – so have fun with your Halloween social media campaigns!

Holiday Newsletters Marketing Tips

17 Oct

Halloween Marketing TipsBecause you will schedule a lot of your business marketing efforts in advance, you may overlook the fact that, say, Halloween is right around the corner.

In just about every business, incorporating the upcoming holidays into your marketing efforts will pay off. People like to see that more personal side of your business, where you’re carving jack-o-lanterns, stuffing a turkey, struggling with Christmas lights on your roof, etc.

The holidays offer the perfect opportunity to launch a business promotion, sale, coupon code, etc. – and your newsletter is the perfect way to let people know about it.

It could be as simple as adding a witch’s hat to your company logo or adding a few clever words into your newsletter content such as “spooktacular event” or “frightfully good deals.” Yup, it’s a little cheesy, but your clients love cheese. They really do.

There’s also the fact that people spend more right around the holidays, so if you’re able to tie in a Christmas promotion or a Thanksgiving promotion or whatever kind of promotion into your current marketing efforts, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Besides, don’t you think it would be a little weird to receive an email from a business you frequent without receiving any kind of holiday wishes? Wishing people a happy Halloween or Thanksgiving or Christmas or New Year or Groundhog Day or … I digress, but my point is that acknowledging the holiday at hand and telling your customers that you hope they have a happy one is a simple, effective way to make inroads with clients by coming across as genuine and thoughtful.

So – Happy Halloween everyone! I hope your Halloween parties and candy eating are just as excellent as mine will be. 🙂
