How to Get More Newsletter Subscribers

30 Jan

MailchimpA monthly newsletter is a very important thing for your business because:

a) it keeps you in front of your customers.
b) it promotes your business’ products/services.
c) both of the above.
d) neither of the above.

The answer?

Well, hopefully the answer is (c), but if you don’t have a decent-sized newsletter subscriber list, your answer is probably (d).

…at least for now. Don’t get discouraged! Here’s how to get more newsletter subscribers:

  • Put an opt-in form on your website. Make sure it’s prominently displayed! Put it in at the end of every blog post. This isn’t hard to do thanks to most emailing platforms, which generate the code for you so all you have to do is copy and paste.
  • Use pop-ups. People hate pop-ups, usually, but if they’re already visiting your website, it’s safe to assume they’re at least mildly interested in what you’re selling. A pop-up window asking them to opt-in to stay updated will grow your list much more quickly than the standard opt-in form.
  • Offer freebies. People loooove free stuff! Get them to give you their email address by offering something in exchange, such as a free report, free e-book, free screensaver… something that fits with your business that your customers will love. (Psst! I can help you make that freebie; give me a shout!)

A note about pop-ups: Not all emailing platforms offer the code you need to do pop-ups… but Mailchimp does. Mailchimp is also TOTALLY FREE for as long as you have under 2,000 subscribers, which makes it the perfect platform to get started building your email marketing.

Your New Year’s Resolutions for Business Are…

1 Jan

Happy New Year!

I hope you had a safe, happy, and blessed Christmas holiday – and super fun-filled New Year with lots of champagne and Auld Lang Syne. 🙂

Now that we’re into 2012, it’s time for your New Year’s Resolutions… and I’m not talking about shedding those holiday pounds (although that is definitely on my list!).

I’m talking about your New Year’s Business Resolutions, your plans to make 2012 the best year yet.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Maintain your blog. A blog doesn’t do what it’s supposed to if you don’t post regularly. Make sure your blog is getting updated at least once a week.
  • Update your social media. Yup, same goes for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and all that fun stuff. If someone goes to check out your tweets and sees you haven’t posted an update since, oh, Valentine’s Day, you’re going to have problems. Learn how to make it easy with Hootsuite.
  • Get those monthly newsletters rolling. Online newsletters are an affordable way to develop relationships with your clients and spread the word about your business. Get out of the dark ages and get yourself a monthly newsletter!
  • Revamp your website. How is your website copy? Does it say exactly what you want it to? Is it getting enough visitors? Is it converting those visitors into clients? If not, you may want to invest in a 21st century website.

WickedCopy can help you with all of your New Year’s Business Resolutions. Contact us ASAP to get started – then let us take care of your resolutions for you (at least the ones that don’t involve you going to the gym).

This Month’s Featured Project: Surry Hill Trends

5 Dec

I’ve been writing the monthly newsletters for Surry Hill Trends, a children’s fashion trend forecasting company in New York City, for the last several months – and it has been a real pleasure!

Surry Hill Trends’ motto is: “Kids Fashion IS Fun!” and their newsletters are designed to be a reflection of that: short, sweet, and exciting.

Ever wonder where fashion trends come from? Well, here’s how Surry Hill does it:

What’s cool about Surry Hill Trends is that they are actually able to research and provide color and trend forecasts for children’s fashion and textile designers and others in the industry. It’s a complex research process examining cultural, technological, economical, ecological, and media trends, to name but a few. The results are compiled and distilled into a series of color and trend forecasts that set the stage for the coming seasons’ fashion focus.
